I am looking at a 2020 MX6000HST priced at $24k. It has around 1500 hours and some minor (to me) cosmetic issues (piece of trim busted and hood won't latch). Additionally, the front tires are, in my estimation, around 15-20% tread life left. Is this a decent deal? Also, since the MX comes with a Cat II hitch, how does that limit using normal box store implements? Can I use a tiller that is rated for 20-40hp on a tractor that posts 52hp at the PTO? Will it damage the implement or the tractor? Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Pictures please. More info needed. Attachments included? Cab or open station? Etc.

Since you said that you are newbie, some very experienced folks on here might see a lot of good or bad in photos that you wouldn't see.

You won't find many 'box store' implements for it. It is a serious machine.

And I wouldn't put a 40 HP rated tiller on a 52 HP rated PTO. Because I don't have that low/high swap experience. Implements and tractors have ratings for a reason. Some more experienced folks opinions may differ.

Be well. Tractor on. Match implements to PTO HP. Every time.

Eric

Edit: MX anything is a big machine for a newbie... Just sayin' What are your plans with it?

You can get adapter bushings to make cat I implements fit on a cat II 3PH.

Required implement power is a minimum, you won't have any trouble with more PTO power, you might have trouble with less.

That is a big machine(for most of us), if you don't need the size it might get in the way.

I agree with these fellers. That is a big ole girl.

Also, a bit too many hours for me. Reckon I'd dig a little deeper if possible.

You come here without giving us a chance to tell you what tractor you need? JK

An MX should be a good utility tractor. 1500 hours wouldn't scare me off if it has been properly cared for, and you are reasonably handy with a wrench.

Does it include a front loader? At that price, probably not. A loader is extremely useful, and used ones are scarce.

The MX 3ph is Class I/II using bushings, so that's no problem.

You can use the tiller, but I'd treat it gingerly.

To have fronts that worn I'd expect it's been used with a loader, even if the loader's not on it now. I wouldn't buy a machine without a loader personally, most people need one, and they're expensive to add later. Way better to buy a machine with one on.

A tiller should have some sort of slip clutch - because they hit stones and the like. The slip clutch should protect it from over HP as well. The tractor will only deliver as much HP as is needed to run the implement - if you have your throttle set at 540rpm, then it will deliver enough power to spin the implement at 540rpm. If the tiller's rated for 40hp, unless you're beating it through some very hard soil, it's likely it simply can't use any more than 40hp - the tractor will be throttling back to avoid spinning too fast.

Most people would buy the right size implement, because if you have 52hp, why not use it. But if you already own the tiller, or are borrowing it or renting it, it's unlikely to break it.

For some reason I recall the MX 3ph being described as Cat I/II. I thought it had both sets of bushings or something?
