Hi all, I've had an orange tractor for years (B7100 HST) but just picked up a nearly new 2011 BX2660 with 56 hours on the clock and have a few questions.

There is a vertical rod on the dash just to the inside of the throttle control lever. I assumed this was some sort of speed or cruise control but I can't figure out how to use it.

There appears to be a piece missing on the air filter cover. There is a round outlet coming off the cover approx. 1.5" diameter with a sticky gasket material but nothing connected to it. Seems like there was a hose or tube there but I can't find anything laying below that looks like it may have come disconnected.

Can't wait to get some manuals for this to start getting more info.
Thanks in advance!
Kurt

Oh and FYI the old gal is for sale and has a 2 stage Kubota blower on it. I figured I better get a few posts under my belt before posting it for sale in the appropriate forum location.

for the speed control -

To engage Speed Set Device
1. Accelerate speed to desired level using Speed Control
Pedal.
2. Push and hold the speed set rod downward to "ON"
position.
3. Release Speed Control Pedal.
4. Release the speed set rod and desired speed will be
maintained.
C To disengage Speed Set Device
A Depress the brake pedal.

On the filter - should have a round black "hose" that looks like a closed pair of lips......you squeeze it and large stuff can fall out - always points downward.

The vertical rod is the cruise control. When you have the tractor going at the desired speed lift the rod and then lift your foot of the pedal. The speed will usually slow down just a little. To take it off cruise control step on the break or step on the pedal to increase speed, stepping on reverse will not work.
The WSM for the BX2360 is available for free at:http://kubotabooks.com/AutoIndex/index.php?dir=Tractor Owners Manuals/

The owners manual for the BX2360 is not listed so you may need to buy it. Try Messicks or Coleman.

Hokie, thanks for the response. I'm fairly certain I tried pushing down (as well as pulling up) the rod when cruising and the pedal just returned back, I was creeping when I tried it, perhaps I need to be above a certain speed?

I will check for the piece on the air cleaner again.

Larry,

on this model - you push it down to lock, not pull up:)

It is not an infinite adjustment. If you hold the rod down and slowly increase speed by pushing the pedal down you can feel the bump as the rod linkage passes over the steps. When you get to the speed you want, take your foot off the pedal, while still holding the rod down.

One more question, for starting. When I turn the key to the first position, I was excpecting the glow plug indicator to come on and go out after some time to indicate it was ready to turn fully to start. I started it several times and never see the glow plug indicator and if I start it cold it starts hard of course.

What is the proper start procedure?

Thanks again

Kubitz,
When I start my 2012 BX25D, turning key to first click gives me the fuel pump power, then turn a little more (no click), and Glow Plugs indicator light comes on. Hold it there for approx. 10 seconds, then engage starter with key. -I've never had it rotate more than two turns before starting right up, even in 0 to 5 degF temps. I do add 15ml Diesel conditioner per tank full since I'm using regular industrial fuel, not 'winter diesel'.

Thanks Gregger, mine seemed to go from first click to start, I'll try again and see if there is a sweet spot between the 2 that shows the glow plug indicator.

Same on mine. It really isn't a "position" but is halfway between "on" and "start," and has some spring pressure resistance. It won't stay in the glow plug on position.

The owners manual for the BX2370 gives the following Preheating times:
Over 32F 2-3 seconds
23F to 32F 5 seconds
5F to 23F 10 seconds

If you use the block heater for an hour when it's cold, it starts like its 80F.

The first position is ON,

then there is a second position (which has spring tension felt against the key) that is the Glow Plug ON,

then the third position (also has spring tension) is the starter Crank position.

So you would hold the key in the second position for 10 -15 seconds (or whatever your weather requires) before turning to third position to crank the engine.

The other guys pretty much have the lever question covered.

The short tube coming out of you air filter cover is likely the dust "release". It is a rubber tip that is split down the middle. If you squeeze the base, the thing looks like a bird's beak opening and closing.

It is cheap (relatively) and easy to replace or install by just slipping it over the hole in the filter.

It becomes brittle after a while, splits, and falls off.
