I am looking at buying a small tractor (my JD lawn tractor can't handle paddock topping). I have seen a B1750HST with a belly mower that has around 2300 hours and is affordable. I am told it is a 1991 build.
The tractor is a bit rough panel wise, but no real rust. I'm no mechanic but it seems to be in good mechanical condition - starts well, no smoke, no leaks, etc. It does creep a bit above idle.
Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for?
Can I tell the age from the serial number? This is 64537 or 645870 (I wrote it down from 2 different locations and may not have copied it properly.
How much, if any, whine should there be from the HST?
Assuming it has had an average life and servicing, what might need attention at these hours, e.g. are the clutch or brakes or whatever likely to need replacing soon? Or, if it works OK will they go 'forever'.
