Good morning,
A question for those with cab tractors -
I have a new MX 4900 cab tractor on the way, due next week. (Trading my L3901 open station in on it.)
I see a there are several optional defrost, heat and wiper features that could be added. I'm not sure what they even are. Are the standard defrost features problematic?
I am assuming that the cabs are pretty well sealed up against dust? Or are there some tips and tricks needed to keep them clean? I mow a lot of rough weeds, food plots, dried corn and sorghum that can really be dusty. (that's the reason for the cab). It will be nice to come back from mowing and not need a shower and change of clothes.
The cab has a space for a radio, but no radio installed. I might call the dealer and have them put one in or order one and do it myself. Can you actually hear it while using the tractor or do you still need to wear ear protection in there?

Thanks,
TD

You'll love the cab. Other than the obvious relief from heat and cold, the air is better to breather. Dust and pollen have always affected me. Lung fung after mowing was frequently a problem certain times of the year.

Defrost - Mine doesn't have anything beyond a bunch of adjustable air outlets in the roof. They work fine. In cold weather the heater provides enough warmth that I don't need anything else. The inside of the glass will sometimes frost up for the first 5 minutes till the engine warms up.

Dust - Most of the dust here is generated when mowing. Two scenarios are the first mowing after flooded areas dry out, or when pollen is heavy. Right now "rusty grass" made its annual appearance. Dust and the bugs are no issue. I could mow in my Sunday best.

Wipers - The front wiper is sufficient. There are times when it's needed for plowing snow. Every now and then rain will move in while mowing. I did add a rear wiper to a DIY cab on the last tractor. It was mainly because of the rear snow blower.

Radio - I added one but rarely use it. The cab is certainly quieter than open station but not quiet enough to really enjoy the radio. I did use headphones a bit but then felt too disconnected from the tractor.

Disclaimer - mine is 20 years old ... But ... For example my slide controls for three point draft height and cruise control are not really sealed ... I've only mowed with it a few hours now, and didn't notice any dust coming in there, but there is probably a 1/2" wide channel open that the control arm "slides" along ... Not sure if newer ones have some kind of rubber flaps or brushes that would "seal it up" better ...

Mine also only has vents in the roof, with round adjustable vents that could be pointed at the window, or you ... Plus more roof vents along the sides ...

Get the best seat you can afford ...

You will Love it! Congrats!

Mine is a 2022 LX2610.

Cab is very airtight. No dust gets in. When closing the big glass doors I can feel the pressure.

Front Def is as others mentioned, round vents in the ceiling. It works well.

AC and heating works awesome.

Wiper blades front and rear. Needed.

Swing out rear window. Don't forget to close it when it's dusty outside and ..... a lifted 3pt top link or the implement might hit it. Bang! That would be expensive!

Work lights front and rear... I had to order the rear lights seperately... A must have for me

Rear defrost is a switch on the dash like a car. Element lines in the glass.

I don't have or want the radio. I use blutooth headset thru my phone.

Front defrost vents:

Rear window with defrost lines:

Edit: The mirrors are great. I rarely twist my body to look back ward. My back injury rejoices. Only turn around to connect a 3 pt or if using a box scraper.

The caveat.... you're in a phone booth, not like on a motorcycle or atv. There is a disconnect with being ON a tractor or IN a tractor.
The work you do with your tractor is like watching a video thru protective glass. Not like on an open station where the smells and dirt are everywhere and part of you. The experience is very different to me. In an Open station, I feel that the tractor and I are one working machine. In a cab, you watch the tractor work while you control it.

OP,

good day.

I have no input on the awesomeness of a cabbed machine (although I am starting to want one), but I think MX is a solid choice (I may be slightly biased😉).

anyway, congratulations and share some pics when you get it.

great job.👍

I wouldn't get a radio, can't hear it. Being an old fart I have hearing aids and they are bkuetooth compatable with my phone. Pandora for the win. I just bought a cabbed kx033-4 excavator and did not have a radio installed for that reason.

I got a L5460 the first of the month and didn't get a radio. The cab is far quieter than the LX3310 it replaced but not quiet enough when i'm working it not to use hearing protection. I also went with a air ride seat. It's much nicer than the stock seat and I'd recommend the side mirrors (getting mine swapped out for heated mirrors). Mine will be used with a rear snow blower so I have rear defrost and a rear wiper.

Let us know what options you decide to add and post some pics.

Thank you, I'm glad to hear the cabs are as a nice as they should be. It sounds like I need to get the mirrors and not a radio. I too have a hard time twisting around to see what I'm pulling. And also can't hear well when there is background noise. So I'll keep using the ear muff radio.
I noticed right away the were brackets but no mirrors on the MX. "thats how they keep the price down". And the seat is a standard seat "you can order the arm rests", "thats how they keep the cost down". I'll order those another day.
Overlap of models and HP is a little confusing. I thought I needed the Grand L48. But they had nothing with a cab in stock around that size. I figured I would have to order something and that is a 4-6 month wait. I was leaving the showroom with price/model confusion and brochures, when I ran into the owner. He was very helpful. I might have ordered and spent way too much money without his help. Turns out he had a tractor that fit my requirements better, in stock. And saved me a lot of money!

I had rigged golf cart mirrors on my old tractor, once you get used to mirrors, you have to have them.
