Howdy,

Looks like a nice forum you have here. Figured I had better sign up since I recently purchased a(orange tractor)BX1500.

It has a LA181 FEL and RCK48-15BX MMM, there are 700+ hours on the meter, it was located 400 miles away and cost a tad under 7k.

This new to me BX1500 is hopefully going to cut grass / perform light yard work in the summer and clear snow from a 150' gravel driveway in the winter.

So far I have purchased the operators manual, changed the engine oil (10/30), transmission/hydro fluid (Super UDT) and front axle fluid (80/90), changed the air filter, oil filter, trans filter, cleaned the trans suction line screen, replaced the 2 fuel filters, all filter and fluids are Kubota brand products(purchased locally).Removed the MMM and FEL and washed the tractor and MMM. Greased the FEL, MMM and tractor using Chevron Ultra-Duty Grease EP/NLGI. Also canged the fluid in the gear box (80/90) on the MMM. The front axle pivot bolt needed to be torqued to spec as well.

Seems like a nice tractor so far, the only seriouse flaw I have found is the underside of the MMM has a ton of rust, seems like I must have washed away at least a pound of metal/paint while cleaning it. Going to try and cut some grass today and see how it operates.

Here are some pics....

Hopefully after some time on this tractor and studying the forum I will learn some tips, tricks and other useful info so that I can give back to others.

Thanks for your time and knowledge, peace.

Welcome to the OTT forum mattillac. Great pics and nice looking tractor. Sounds like you did all the required prep work before using it. As for the rust, it sounds like the under side of the deck was never cleaned.

What part of Illinois are you located in?

Am looking forward to putting it to really good use.

Thanks again

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Went ahead and brushed some oil based rusty metal primer on the inside of the bucket, outter sides and bottom.

Primer is still a little wet there, going to try and roll on some Ace brand Allis Chalmers Orange later this evening and see how it looks.

Welcome. I'm sure you will get a lot of use (some of us call it fun) out of the little beast.

Just a few notes:

>A diesel engine uses specific oil. Regular automobile oil will not do the job. You didn't specify which was used.

>Rust is normal for the underside of the mower. Painting it will cause it to become bare metal again in a few mowings. Been there, done that.

>Search for BX1500 as well as BX2200 when looking for information. They are nearly the same platform. There seem to be more BX2200s around.

>Hydraulic power steering line leaks is one of the most common problems. Look for drips before it becomes streams. Yours is just about the right age to become wary.

Above all, enjoy.

If you have a Home Hardware store you can buy Kubota orange rust paint. It matches up pretty close to perfect.
Thanks for the info. It looks like the paint I threw on there is a decent match, probably not close enough for touching up smaller chips / spots though.Probably going to be near impossible to match perfectly considering the sun fade. Maybe in the spring I can take more time to remove the loader bucket and have it sand blasted / powder coated. Will need to research this more.

Here is how the Ace Hardware Allis Chalmers Orange turned out...

Not too shabby for now I guess.

So far all filter and fluids are Kubota brand products(purchased locally).

in the OP I mentioned Chevron Ultra-Duty Grease which was a mistake, I should have said Chevron Starplex grease.

Thanks for the info on the BX2200, power steering lines and deck paint, didn't know any of that there.

Looks like I need to do a lot of reading/studying here.

Thanks again all, appreciate the responses.
