Been looking for one of the older G model Kubota garden tractors. What are some of the pros and cons one should expect from these units? thank you

referring to a G6200 or G5200

I have owned a G4200 Gear with 42" deck, G5200HST with 44" deck and G6200HST with 48" deck. I had all 3 in my mowing business and put about 2000 hours on each with no problem except for spilling of battery acid in the G6200's ignition switch when the tractor was tilted up to far when the blades were changed by my dealer in a before season service. I am also looking for a G4200 gear to restore for collection. The only other problem was deck antiscalp rollers seamed to wear out quickly. As far as I am concerned you CANNOT find a better built lawn tractor than the Older G series.

I'll second JosephC! there really isn't a better mower than the G3200-6200 series! how often do you really need four wheel drive and power steering to cut the lawn?

As far as problems with the G3200-6200, the steering wheel shaft bushing at the bottom wears out periodically and you gotta watch them for overheating! Keep that radiator CLEAN! and the foam seals in good condition. I suggest you rig up some kind of coolant recovery bottle, a pop bottle will do the trick, then you can keep the radiator right full.

May be running into trouble. I need a mower deck, 44 or 48 inch. Somebody had a RC44-42 deck for sale. Will this fit the 6200 or not? I'm new to the Kubota game and can't be sure about this.

I never had a problem with the steering bushings, but the over heating was somewhat of a problem. I used the soda bottle fix. I found permanet fix was to use a catch bottle from a Nissan or Toyota. They were cheap and easy to find because we had a couple of salvage yard around the area that I had access to. For the most part I always stripped the hoses, brackets and whatever I thought that I needed. My brother reminded me that I maybe paid $10 at the most. I did have another problem with the G6200 HST of frame cracking at the very back of the frame that held the transaxle bolted to the frame, as the bolts would loosen letting the trans move then cracking. My brother also reminded me that we had 4300hrs when we traded it off for a B1550HST 4WD with PS and a 54" caster deck.

My new-to-me G6200 with 550 hours on it is simply a superb machine. It needed a few minor tweaks. It's power, excellent handling, and marvelous foot pedal control of forward and reverse speed is terrific. The price was extremely fair, the condition was excellent, and this baby is gonna take me the rest of the way.
