I'm picking away at the 50hr maintenance on my MX5800 as I get time. I changed the engine oil and filter today.

I still have the filter for the HST and the hydro's, plus a jug of hydro fluid for whatever I spill.

Manual states to only replace those two filters and not the fluid. My dealer confirmed.

My question, aren't these systems going to start to drain quickly once the filter comes off? I'm imagining having to get the old filter off and new on very quickly to avoid a lot of fluid loss? Is this correct?

I read something about a vacuum on the fill port in the back, but I don't really want to get into that.

Without the manual in front of me at the moment, after switching these two filters, I fill them both back up using the single fill port in the back, by the 3 point and go by the sight glass...correct?

I did mine 20 hrs ago. One side will want to drain the other not so much. I forgot which. Put your thumb over the hole and be quick. Have the new filter in reach. You'll lose a pint plus whats in the filter. Fill it from the back like you said and watch site glass. Dont forget the magnet ring on the one filter.

My dealer recommended changing the Transmission Fluid when changing filters, tend to over do things, cannot go wrong with fresh fluids.

My dealer told me to park sideways on a hill when changing the HST filter. Of course, he told me this when I was picking up some UDT to fill the thing up after the flood! :)

But, yes, a prudent thumb over the the open housing and a quick spinning on of the filter will minimize fluid loss.

Fill as you wrote above.
