I posted this a week or so ago but I guess the thread I brought back was too old. Can somebody give me a hand on this question? Thanks. I purchased an almost new MX 5200 earlier this year and was thinking about upcoming winter this week. Do I really need to have computer reprogrammed if I put a block heater in ? Assuming I would have to have machine moved to a dealer to have done. Anyone else installed block heater in similar machine without doing so? TIA

No. Why would you need to have the PCM reflashed for a block heater that plugs into the wall?

You should be able to buy the kit and install in the suitable core plug hole. No programming necessary.

Thanks in The prior post I found one of the responses seemed to indicate the sensors would tell the control module incorrect temp info and engine would respond incorrectly. Think I’ll buy , install, and see what happens. Appreciate the responses.

The ECM reprogramme applies only to L60 series only. PSB-2019-102

There is a possibility that the engine will not start during winter if you are using a block heater. This is because the glow time for the glow relay is based on the temperature readings taken from the coolant temperature instead of the air temperature. A block heater will warm the coolant temperature resulting in a shorter glow time and this will prevent the engine from starting normally.

Reprograming the engine ECU so that it will take readings from both coolant temperature and air temperature. The glow time will then be determined automatically by the engine ECU based on whichever is the lowest of the two temperature readings.
