Anyone have any tips/tricks for removing the tension spring without ruining it? YouTube seems pretty scarce with this stuff.

Are you speaking of the spring for the belt tensioner?

If so, I use a piece of heavy wire, e.g., 7-9 ga galvanized or even coat hanger, bent into a hook or loop on the spring end and looped around a bar, socket extension, etc., for a handle on the other end.
