Good evening from upstate New York!
I recently became the proud owner of a Kubota L185 DT, which I borrowed from my neighbor several times over the years. I am planning to do a full tune-up and fluid change as soon as possible, and can't find great information on where to start. I do have a manual from servicemanualvault.com (printing is clean and legible by the way).

Are there any resources available for basic maintenance tasks like checking and changing the transmission fluid, hydraulic oil, and engine oil and other routine maintenance?

Also if there are any tips for keeping an old reliable tractor happy, I would love to know.

Thanks!
Kevin

You should get the owners manual
try Kubota books dot com but I don’t think they have one

I can email you the manual or you can order one from Messicks but the quality is pretty low (on the pictures)

just send me a email at russellking at Austin dot rr dot com

On the transmission fluid change there are several drain points and the lowest ones are on the vertical walls of the rear wheel drive covers. Look from the rear where the PTO is out towards the rear wheel and you’ll see them (look like large bolt heads)

Get a pump for the fluid to refill, don’t try to pour it in, that is difficult.

There is a filter screen to remove and clean (or replace) on the clutch side nea the rear axle but you have to drain it first. I think I have posted pictures on here but can send you the pictures of all these items or anything you have a question about.

Thanks Russell, your advice is greatly appreciated. Do you have any recommendations on brand of oil for the transmission? Is it worth ordering the Kubota UDT or Super UDT?

And, as far as filling the transmission, is it the red plug on top of the transmission?

A picture of where that filter screen would be much appreciated!

Thanks, I'll also email you

Here is the best picture of the filter screen I can find
it is in this thread
First picture shows where the level plug is located.

second picture bar shows the cap that is painted red. The picture is from standing on the left side of tractor near the foot rest/clutch pedal looking down and towards the rear axle. If you have the exhaust out the rear just follow along it.

For the transmission fluid I use TSC Traveler universal tractor transmission hydraulic fluid

but I didn’t see it on their site just now.
