I am looking at buying the above tractor. Everything seems to function appropriately except 2 forward gears have an obvious clicking sound. The gears function but there is an abnormal sound. Any ideas if this might be an adjustment or something more serious. Thanks!

Think I'd walk away unless it was cheap. No adjustment that I know of and repair entails splitting the tractor. I believe the main shift is synchromesh but the range shift isn't. Sound to me like some gear jamming was going on. Unless you have a facility to spit it, I'd pass. That is big stuff and you need the proper equipment to split it and depending on hours, you'll most likely need to renew the clutch, pressure plate and associated parts too. I purposely stayed away from a DT model when I bought mine. The hydraulic shuttle is a bit more expensive but no dry clutch to deal with other than a damper plate that lasts forever.

Thirty years of wear. Better have a big cushion in the price for fixing it when it totally fails.
Thirty years of wear can be inconsequential if it wasn't abused. I baby mine and as such both are as perfect as can be (except for the faded Mary Kay paint...

BIG CUSHION. Not a backyard garage job. Big and heavy parts. Sounds to me like the gears have some teeth screwed up...

Clicling gears most likely have broken teeth. Bigger older machines can be pretty expensive to fix - some parts are no longer available and some that are have gone way up in price. Would be great to get a look and listen from somebody with experience in the big M's and make a list of likely parts and labor. Any way to ask a prior owner how long it's clicked? Maybe if treated with respect it would click forever. But maybe it's puckering up to a spectacular dismount !
