M8580 4WD switch location?

I was asked today to go and look at an M8580 4wd tractor that is used at a large chicken farm by guys that are not really tractors guys -- the 4wd does not turn on or at least they did not know how to turn on - -- I checked under neath and it appears to be turned on and off with a valve with a solenoid at each end . The wires go up under the floor of the cab. There is no switch that I can find anywhere in the cab to turn on the 4wd -- also the front axle differential lock pedal was stuck down. While under the tractor I found that the rod that engages the diff lock was under the fuel tank strap and stuck in position . :(

any help would be appreciated - thanks

Welcome to OTT
Are you the same AussieKen that has/repairs Green tractors? I'm sorry I don't know the answer for M8580 but my M7040 has a 4wd manual shift T handle to the LH side of seat.

I don’t know anything about an 8580 either but all 9540’s and 7040’s I have been a T Handle to the left of the seat as stated previously. The wires you are seeing maybe for an indicator light? I have never seen a front diff lock pedal.

Both my M's have a front and rear differential lock pedal on the right side below the seat you engage with your right foot and they both have a Tee handle on the left side of the seat to engage the FWA. In 10 years I don't believe I've ever used the front or rear differential locks. FWA quite a bit though.

Only indicator light I have is for the PTO, everything else is by the seat of your britches.

Sounds like you have a bi-speed turn option, if that's the case the 4wd is automatic.
But look on the left side for a manual lever.

Picture of what your seeing would help. ;)

So you have a dedicated pedal for for front diff lock or does the front lock whenever you lock the rear? I have a diff lock pedal but thought it was only for the rear.

Only the largest of the M's have a locking front differential.
All the rest of the tractors only have rear locking.

And yes they have 2 pedals.

Yes Tx Jim -- same Aussie Ken - JD mechanic --- helping a guy with their Kubota -- will get a picture -- it seems to have this Bi speed deal -- a sensor to the left spindle that the wires are ripped off from --- a manual would be nice but these guys wont pay for one and have no money to fix anything since they work for a large chicken farm that only seems to have tractors that are in dire need of attention

There is a dedicated pedal for front diff lock that is on the floor due to some clown reassembling and jamming the diff rod inside the fuel tank strap -
