A friend of mine has an M7040 that is overheating. I plan on changing the thermostat for him. The job looks pretty straight forward; just remove the three bolts that hold the casting that the radiator hose goes too. Is there anything else that I need to be aware of?
Thanks,
bob

Not a M7040….but I had an overheating diesel (JD) that turned out to be a water pump impeller which was spinning on it’s shaft. In other words, the pump was turning….not leaking.. but when I finally got tired of cleaning the system and replacing the thermostat (actually removed it and it still ran hot)…. I finally removed the water pump and held the pulley in one hand…and could spin the impeller on the shaft with the other hand. That pump could not Push coolant.)

New pump….. problem solved.
