Hello-
Here's the deal- with brakes locked, shuttle in forward; tractor will not move, RPMs don't drop.
Brakes locked, shuttle in reverse; RPMs drop or engineis killed.
If I start in a low gear tractor will move and eventually get up to normal speed- but when load is applied speed drops and RPMs remain constant.
Possibly shuttle linkage? 300 hrs on tractor. Changed out hyd filters and oil- no improvement.
Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

I guess that I would start by checking the external linkage down to the valve to make sure that the forward shift has full travel. After that you are going to have to do a pressure test to make sure the forward shuttle clutch is getting ample pressure.

300 hrs should not have much wear.

Thanks, Pat. That's where we'll start in the morning. Problem started after a day of disc mowing waterways- hopefully something jiggled loose.
Thanks again,
Tom

Welcome to OTT
I agree one needs to check operation of shuttle control mechanism. Maybe this will help you diagnose shuttle malfunction. Is tractor still covered under powertrain warranty?

Thanks for providing a better view of my photo. With my lack of computer skills I can just barely upload a photo.

Just trying to help the OP, as are you. I certainly don't know the answer but your post points in what may be a valuable direction.

We M7040 owners seem to stick together. There are not many problems with the model but when one comes up, we are all over it.

Men-
First tried two turns adjustment-no better. Then disconnected shuttle cable to allow full travel- that did it. Marked cable and re-set, fine tuned by feel and locked it down. Hope that's good.
Many Thanks,
Tom

Thank you for reporting back! It helps others here on this forum. Since we give so much input and get little reward or even to find out what the outcome was.

Thanks again men. So glad she didn't have to go for a ride!
Best part was working with 12yr old grandson. He's a good kid and kinda wrenchy but when my head's full of questions, his questions can be a little taxing.
Worth it all when he grins and says "We fixed it! It works again!"
