I have a M7040 4wd drive that I afraid the clutch is going out? When you put it in high 3 or 4th it slips for awhile before reaching full speed. It does it in forward only reverse seems to be ok. We changed the oil and filters the tractor only has 350 hours on it.

Any other ideas on what to look for or any adjustments?

It may not be the clutch , you need to check the hydronic pressure to the clutch.
Is it still under warranty ?
What year is it ?
I had the same issue on my M85, had to replace the controller.

Does anyone have the details on pressure reading locations and the numbers from the service manual?

Took it to the dealer end up being a o-ring in the shuttle shift. Maybe caused by shifting to fast from forward to reverse? It cost about $1400 and had to split the case. I don't think we abused it or shifted to fast from forward to revesre? I am beginning to think that Kubota makes great engines, just not as good on the other things. Had a low hour L series that to be split apart for a snap ring on the PTO.

I know this is from a different world but on (most) wheel loaders they have a kick out pedal that disengages the clutch which allows you to stop the machine before you shift and go in the other direction. Sure they can be shifted without the pedal but before you know it the driveline will be twisted out. You may get by with it once, maybe even for months or years but catch it in the right situation and the weakest link will fail.

The more bells and whistles a machine has the more likely something will break. All this new electronic stuff, clutchless shifts, auto this and that is nice when it's working right. All it takes is one sensor or loose wire and it can shut the entire machine down. You're probably lucky that the only thing wrong was a bad o-ring.

IMHO there's still alot to be said for a standard gear tractor with manual everything.
