M5140HD Box Blade size?

Hi all, I am looking to purchase a box blade for my M5140(52HP) and would like some advise on sizing. Ideally, what size box blade should I be looking to purchase? I believe I need a minimum of 6ft to cover my tracks. I have seen several nice 8ft blades on craigslist and a few 6ft light duty blades.

I will mainly be using the blade to build and maintain gravel drives throughout my property.

Is 8ft too much for my tractor?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!!

I really like our Land Pride HR3584, I use it on my 5740 and 8540, your M5140 should have no problem, but an HRL35 which is 78" instead of 84" with a low back.

You might also look at a good roll over box scraper as they don't need the hydraulics and are pretty heavy.

To start with, if you actually want the box blade to work in pretty much any condition, don't even consider anything less than 1000lbs plus or minus a few lbs. A good width for your tractor would be something in the 78"-84" range.

Anything that fits in this description is going to cost some $$$$, not in the $1000-$1500 range.

The ideal unit would be a Gannon similar to this.

TripleR mentioned a roll over box blade or (ROBB). These are also a very good alternative. I happen to use a 65" & 81" Gannon ROBBs with my tractors. Unfortunately Gannon discontinued their ROBBs a few years ago.

Something else to consider is a top & tilt set for your tractor. This is a HUGE help in getting the most out of your grading implements.

I'm in complete agreement with MtnViewRanch, I put a TnT on my last tractor and while I used OEM, I've bough cylinders from him and his are every bit as good if not better than OEM.

I've got an M5140 as well. I've run a 6' box blade that doesn't quite cover my tracks. Would be interested in what you get and how well it does on your tractor.
