recently purchased a used M5040, was moving brush around with the bucket when the engine began revving up very high. I could not get it to idle down or shut off, I eventually engaged the PTO which lowered the engine RPM and allowed me to shut off the tractor. Now it will not start and I am stuck in the woods

look under the hood for brush or sticks or other things that could have hit the controls.
If that's not it, then you have an internal issue, as the governor in on the inside of the engine.
