My ZD28 started acting weird. It would run 15 minutes or so then die and would not restart. Wait 30 minutes or so, restart and run another 15 minutes. Changed filters and electric pump without relief. Installed new fuel lines, no help. Was in the process of removing the fuel tank for inspection and removed the fitting that the fuel hose connects to on the rear portion of the tank. There is a dip tube that goes straight down from that fitting to the bottom of the tank on the inside. I found the end of the dip tube connected to the fitting had deformed over the past 20 years and was loose and sucking air along with the fuel. One symptom noted was when the tank was full, it would run longer before dying and would restart sooner. I cut off the stretched piece of dip tube and reconnected and that was the end of that saga.
Also, I once had similar fuel issues and found a mild kink in the fuel line. Not enough to cut fuel off altogether but enough to make it die after 20 minutes or so.
