I was heading out to do some cutting today, maybe 2 miles from the house. Everything was going fine until I was climbing a hill. Just as I got to the top, clouds of smoke came billowing out the exhaust and breather. Tractor lost all power and I knocked it off. Temp gauge rose a little too. Walked around kicked the tyres and checked the fluid levels again. They were fine. Got in and started it again, no smoke. carried on and did 2 hours brush cutting and had no problems at all. Full throttle all the way home, no problem either.
2,150 hours on it.
Is it banjaxed? Or going to be soon?

Sounds like possibly water was somewhere in the fuel system and driving up
an incline caused it to be sucked in.

Climbing a hill vs full throttle mowing... That just means you were running it at full RPM while mowing but NOT pulling at max power when there is no more. Air filter. Yeah, maybe some moisture in the tank. Do the simple stuff first.

Diesels are wonderful engines.

Does it have a water separator? If so, it may need to be emptied.

What color was the smoke?

Did it sound like it was losing RPMs slightly before the smoke was seen?

I'll check the water separator. It seemed slightly down on power the previous day. I had the air filter out a couple of days ago and it was fine.
Smoke was pretty dark, but not black
Thanks
