Is this why Kubota doesn't offer a thumb that is hydraulically operated? I was thinking about installing a hydraulic thumb cylinder to my BX23S and using the 3rd function to power it. Is this a good or bad idea?

Its a common configuration and no different than a grapple on a loader.

I gues that he was referring to the possibility of dropping stuff, a grapple would have much less of a problem if the cylinders leak down a bit.
