Got a new cutter with my L3560 tractor and just put a set of skid shoes on it. If you guys want to cut close, how low do you set yours? Do you have the skid shoes right down running on the ground, or do you have it up higher and just rely on the shoes to protect it when they do hit the ground?

Just looking for opinions...

Thanks,
Ted

I set the shoes up high, and adjust the depth of the mower, with the lift stop nut, on mine. If you run the shoes real low, they will plow up girt, especially as you cross a ditch or go up a hill, not to mention wearing out the shoes...:D:D

The skid shoes are supposed to bottom out and rise the machine up, like anti-scalp wheel.

Per specs, run your the front of cutter nose down 1" front to back. This prevents clogging and bunching!

I run all of our cutters high enough to keep the skids out of the dirt as much as possible while getting the desired cut. I don't mow very low, if I wanted that, I'd use something else.
