LA480 Boom will not drop

I have a L3300 with a LA480 FL and all of a sudden the boom will not go down except with in float position. The bucket works as expected. Moves in both direction fine. The boom goes up just fine but when trying to power down it barely moves. Also you can hear the engine/see the boom hydraulics under load even when the valve is centered. When you push the stick up into float you can hear the engine unload. Seems to be a problem with the boom valve but how does a valve just go bad?

If you've got quick disconnects on your lines dry disconnecting and reconnecting them. Sometimes they don't seat quite right.
