Help! 2004 l 48 will not turn over. For a while I could giggle forward reverse pedal and get her to start. Now stuck in driveway. I know there is a pressure disc in the linkage that has to be in the right position for it to start. My question is,should I replace that switch(do they go bad?) or look somewhere else. ?thank you rich

You may have all or some of the following in your safety circuit:
clutch switch
pto switch
seat presence switch
fwd/rev switch
brake switch
safety switch circuit fuse (this isn't obvious test all your fuses)
Do you have an intellipanel an does it give a message?

Getting a hold of a WSM will be helpful for you.

find the switch and test it before replacing. The shop manual tells you how. You might even eyeball it before anything as I've seen them come completely apart in the past. If you see it split open, you know you have to get a new one. If not, look for debris around the area of the switch, also look at the wiring in the general area for signs that debris may have damaged it.

No.

Throwing parts at it gets expensive, quickly. It's also frustrating and time consuming, usually.

Troubleshoot, then replace. Don't replace to troubleshoot.

Paper manual pages are much easier for me to put side by side.
That's why most of us have printers along with our computers. I like the PDF manuals, and print out pages I need and don't have to worry about damaging them when using them...always can print out more.

I would find it very inconvenient to schlep my printer back and forth to my tractors.
So, suppose I print out pages 4 thru 7 before I leave, and then when I get there, realize that I also could use pages 15 & 16.
How many times should I run back and forth, before it becomes a bit inconvenient?

Yes, that's true, but I have a secret weapon. I print them out. Then I can mark them up any way I want to, and still have the original, unmarked.

It's especially helpful with wiring diagrams. You can open them in a PDF editor (there are free ones available) and use the highlight function to mark the circuit you are working with. Then print them out. Works great.

That's why i also have the PDF files on my phone and iPad...can always look on the phone if I forget to print something out.

There's always an answer right? LOL

OR just print the whole manual out, and replace pages that get damaged during use...works for me. Paper and aftermarket ink cartridges are cheap in my case.
