Just Did 400 hr service owned for 2 yrs came across in owners manual that at 1k change oil separator filter got obviously some hrs to go but curious what this is ?? Is this why Kubota recommends 400hrs on oil change. In manual it’s seems filter is located up by radiator looked on mine seen canister wrapped in heat tape insulation!! Also was little surprised that Kubota wanted Hydro oil changed every 400 hrs ran heavy equipment for few years old standard oil was 2k hrs and last Excavator I ran JD 160 hydro oil was full synthetic good for 4K hours with filters changed every 1k. Just struck me odd engine and hydraulic same change intervals ??

I believe the oil separator is used to separate oil out of the blow by gases and return it to the oil sump. The gas phase is mixed into the air intake upstream of the turbo if you have one. It is insulated because early on in these newer L models something used to freeze up if there was too much water vapor in the gas, and then a bunch of oil got dumped into the engine causing a runaway. Or that is how I remember it. A tech came out and applied insulation to the lines and the oil separator.

Just noticed that elsewhere in shop manual the same gadget is called the PCV valve...

Only guess I have about the hydro oil change frequency is to keep HST transmission happy. The Kubota SUDT2 oil seems to be good stuff.

Easy to change if and when you choose. The bottom of the updated(foil covered) cannister unscrews and the element is exposed. They aren't cheap, like 50$ but what about a kubota is cheap.

Seems like a worthwhile expenditure if it keeps the air/gas input balanced, and maybe keeping dpf filter clean.

I hope your talking about Diesel not Gas
It was insulated because of water condensation in the lines. They would freeze, and block off the pcv system. This would blow seals and cause issues.
