You guys must get fed up with the "what's the difference" questions :)

So here's another one

The factory says L4240s are on long delivery and are saying the L5040 is a quicker supply.

What's the difference - and if you were buying which one?

Thanks

Well, if you want HST, you can't get it on the L5040, only GST and it has a turbo, 4240 is natural aspiration if that makes any difference and you can get HST.

Ok thanks - both are FST though
OK, I've never seen a L5040 with anything other than a GST and that's all it says is available on the website.

I like the L4240, but needed more PTO HP and got a L5740.

You must have wanted the 4240, or you wouldn't be asking. If you go for the 5040, no matter how much you like it you will always be thinking the 4240 would have been better, cheaper, whatever. Somehow, better. Just talking.

That's a fair point :)

The 5040 is being offered at the same money so I guess I'll accept the generous offer of more bangs for my buck

Valid point, but it goes both ways, I initially wanted an L4240 then came across a too good to pass up L5030 and bought it; sure fit my needs better than the L4240 or so it seemed. I then bought our present L5740; nothing wrong with the L4240, it just wasn't as good of a fit as a more powerful tractor.

My advise is don't settle. Get the model that best fits your needs or you will never be happy. My last 9000 I had to wait for 6 months to get it. Yes, the wait sucked and it was a real test of my patience. Was it worth it, you better believe it. As long as the wheels will turn that tractor will have a place on my farm.

L series. Aside from HP and the largest model accepting the 800 series loader.

Are there any convenience differences or different options the bigger hp models have? From the L3240 - L57040 are the tires the same? Cab size and features the same? 3pt arms the same? Wheel base etc. Just curious if it's just mainly power.
