Assumed (wrong!) I had a bad neutral safety switch, replaced with new, still same problem; starts in gear. Assuming again (?) there is a short somewhere.
Wires from the switch are blue with orange bands and connect to black with white
stripe and black with purple (maybe red?) stripe. They disappear into a maze of wires in the wiring harness and I can't find where they come out. Can't find a
wiring diagram anywhere online for the l4200. Found a diagram for an L3800,
but someone on here said they were different. Could someone share a wiring diagram? I could possibly jump around the short if I knew where to find the exit of the wires from the wiring maze.
Thanks

If you can remove a safety switch and it starts in gears its more likely a fouled up starter relay as a short would more than likely cause a fuse to blow.

I found the starter relay on a parts diagram. Haven't looked on the tractor
yet, but probably I can find it. Is there a way to test it before I spend $100 plus for a new one?

Test light or a meter that goes along way in finding out if it's working right or not.
