Hello all,

New member but Kubota owner since almost 10 years and forum sneaking for a long time too !

So far satisfied with my L3800, although one finds the hydraulic limit easily but overall it is delivering an impressive performance.

Then the question of the day about logging equipment. So far owner of a nice Farmi 351 winch that fits good with the Kubota. Next implement in the sight is a log trailer with grapple. Here I am a little concerned about hydraulic and towing capabilities.

Anyone having experience with such a setup ? I know it can handle kind of an ATV trailer but I’d like one size larger to handle 12 feet logs. Those equipment weight in around a good 2000 pounds.

How would the small Bota cope with it ?

The tractor is rated a 2200Lbs drawbar towing so you would be right at max.

Are your tires loaded?
Do you have any wheel weights on it?
Have you moved the rear tires out to max width?

I would do those to keep traction and stability.

Hello,

It depends....

The lifting cap of the crane will depend on the pressure your tractors pump delivers, 160-170 bar would be ok,
Speed might be an issue though...
I had a Weimer 4100 crane used with a L5040, went well.

Traction depends on type of tyres, weight of you tractor, fully laden weight of your trailer, etc.
But more on degree of slopes,
How wet and how hard the ground is you want to pull the trailer,
In my case the bota was over its limits, i had to unload often again and pass over a racine, also because the ground was quite wet and my trailer has only one axle, as it is a transformed self loading fodder wagon, Mengele LW 20, which has a capacity if 4 metric tons, see photos.

Prob of the bota is the limited inclination of the front axle due to the douple angle drive system, my Carraro pulls by far better, this winter was extremeky wet with ni frist and u git all loads out if the forest without dven using the front nor rear diff locks.

An atv type or vahva jussy type trailer should be better, max 2-2,5 t

Enjoy it it is fun!

Regards

Robert

I have the L3700SU, similar to yours, have an Igland winch, and I have very steep slopes back up to my cabin area. I have found the best combination to retrieve a good load of logs is to cut them into 4-ft lengths, grab as many as I can chain up by lowering the winch, loading them up and then raising both the winch cable (locked) and the winch on the 3-point. I also load as many 4-footers onto the front either on a forks attachment (preferred) or in the front bucket. This balances the heavy load onto both front and rear wheels, while giving great traction to both front and rear axles, the rear sometimes requiring the differential lock on steep runs. I split the 4-footers by hand, either before or after the above transport.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Yep, rear tires are loaded, wheel spacers are installed as well as a good set of chains.

With the loader and bucket, the whole machine must weight in excess of 4000 pounds easily to the best of my knowledge.

I do not want to cut the logs in less than 8 or 12 feet. That’s the reason why a log trailer is at stake.

Thanks again

I'm in the middle of building a log hauler for my L3301, but actually small enough so my older ATV can also pull it. The commerically available ATV trailers didn't look like what I needed. Mine will be a smaller version of the big rig log haulers, just all open frame, with uprights on the sides. A single rigid axle (not going far at all, and I'll be crawling speed wise) and 20" low pressure tires. 48" wide, 5' long, with a long tongue so I can carry 12'ers if need be, probably mostly be 8's. Small trees, quaking aspen, 4 to 6", a few 8's. 1" by 3" rec. steel tube for the frame, should be good for more then the little ATV can pull. Winter is coming!
