L35 Bucket dumps by itself

My cousin bought a 1995 L35 with 1750 hours on it. Looks great, runs great. Only problem, this morning he said the bucket wouldn't curl up. He kept moving the stick back and forth until it curled up, but now when he let's go of the stick, it leaks back down (dumps). Hydraulic valve bodys are out of my realm of mechanical experience. Could it just have a broken o-ring?

Any help is appreciated, greatly!

I had him lightly tap all over the valve body with the handle of a ratchet, and now it's working perfect. Seems like it might have trash in the fluid. I suggested he change the fluid and filter. Am I in the ballpark?

Leak down problems are much more common in cylinders than in valves.

The valves are manufactured with extremely fine tolerances and do not require seals for the main working part.

With this info, sounds like the detent section of the valve has some possible damage in it.
