Tractor starts inconsistently. Sometimes I will seem like the battery is dead and won’t turn over, then when I charge or jump it, it still may not start. You turn the key and wait for the glow plug light to turn off and try to start it, but just after the glow plug light turns off, there is a click in the engine. Each time this happens the engine won’t start. And sometimes when it does start, it may run briefly and then click and shut off. If I can get it running it will usually run fine, but sometimes may “click-off”. Any idea what this issue is? Is it a safety switch? Selinoid? Other wiring?
You need to eliminate the basics.
Clean where the battery ground cable attaches to the tractor frame. Remove it, polish the mating surfaces and reattach.
If you do not have one buy a cheap multi meter which will allow you to measure voltages.
You need to know what the battery voltage is when you say it is dead. Measure first with the meter probes stuck on the actual battery posts not the cable terminals.
Next, touch your probes to the battery cable end clamps. If you get a different reading something is not right with either your battery cable clamps or the cleanliness between the clamps and the battery posts.
Once you get the basic starter working reliably we can focus on the engine shutting down after starting.
Read though the attached DENSO starter trouble shooting tips and see what you can accomplish with a cheap multimeter..
