I have a L2900, got it with a hole on the block at only 300 hours, the hole is just above the starter and it looks like the rod broke and banged around good inside before it found an exit. I need a complete engine replacement, to make things easy, unless I find a short block with good crank etc that I can just bolt my upper parts on. From looking around I think a 1503 1703 maybe an 1803 will work best. Any help on what engines to look for is greatly appreciated.

The D1703 is a Industrial engine so it's won't work for a tractor, no hydraulic drive cam.

You need to be careful there is several styles and uses of D1503, D1703, D1803
There are industrial use, gen use and ag use.
You must get an engine for AG use as others will not have a cam to run the hydraulics.
Some will not have variable speed or proper speed.
There is also IDI and DI engines in all those models, IDI parts do not cross over to DI engines and vice versa.

Hey buddy long time no talk, i remember ten years ago or so you put an engine in a 2950 when I was doing a L3600 engine swap. So back to engine issue, the ag motor, it will have the large 4 bolt cap on the fuel pump housing is that correct? Or how do I tell looking at pics of engines on like eBay etc?

Pictures won't tell you, you'll need the model and serial number to tell you what it is and how it's equipped.
