Need to rebuild a L260P Water Pump. All information I find says to just press the shaft through the impeller to remove. However, I'm concerned about breaking the pump housing. There seal flange housing looks a little too fragile to press against.

Looks like my options are.
Just do it and hope I don't break the pump housing.
Warm the impeller before pressing.
Is there room to use a puller and some heat to remove the impeller from the shaft? (The pump is still on the tractor.)
Cut the impeller off with a torch.

Does any one have first hand experience with these?

Thanks,
Kent

The pump looks like the "older" style on my L245. I got the kit, pulled the pump, removed the pulley with a puller. Before I pulled the pump apart I got the shaft nice and shiney with a wire wheel on a bench grinder. It came part fine the with some coaxing as I remember.
Just make sure to always support as much of the body of the pump as possible to avoid stressing. It is still working fine after 6 years. Have fun.
