New guy here. A friend and I have been looking for a project tractor for a while and came across an L240. From what I've been able to find, it seems this is a grey market unit and the closest US equivalent is an L260(?). So my first questions are 1) Am I right about the closest equivalent? And 2) how close is it?

I've found very little info about the L240 and not much more about the L260 which makes me think the L260 wasn't popular/common so I'm a little concerned about parts availability. So question 3) Should I be?

The unit is not running but appears otherwise to be in reasonable used condition for its age. Price is $500.

Thanks for any answers/comments.

What makes you think that its an L240 grey market? Mine is an L260 domestic market and the frame is stamped L240. Post some pics if you can to confirm.

That being said, these tractors are definitely the odd man out. 2Cyl engine that was only used in this tractor, vary little parts commonality with anything else. I rebuilt the trans over the winter and there was only 2 parts that were not available, had to modify off the shelf parts to fit. Messicks.com had everything that I needed other than that.

If you are mechanically inclined and a little resourceful, that could be a good deal on a tractor. Does it have a loader or anything else with it?

Go to Kubota.com, they have a illustrated parts list. If your tractor is listed then it is not a grey market. I have a L185 and it is NOT grey market. I don't think the L240 is either.

The decals on the hood identify it as an L240. Unless I read the Kubota site wrong, that's grey.

No loader or anything. Just the tractor.

I'm pretty handy, but I can't machine parts or anything. I'm comfortable doing the work if parts are available.

Thanks for the replies so far.
