If you increase the power of the engine, will the rest of the drivetrain handle the extra power ( torque) ??
Yes. The L2501 shares virtually identical drivetrain components as the L3301/L3302 and L3901/L3902.

Simple solution, buy a bigger tractor.
That being the case, why does Kubota offer an L2501, L3301/L3302 and L3901/L3902?
They’re all the same weight yet, different power?

Ultimately, though, I agree, if you need more tractor (weight) buy a larger tractor.

this is my next mod (will turbo eventually) on my l2501.
a good friend (owned and raced high performance diesel trucks) told me, the mod isn't complete until i take the pump, pipes and injectors to a diesel pump specialist for tuning. i found one of the best in the nation bout 1.5 away. when i get time this winter i'll pull it and run it over. ill keep you posted.

I'm pretty sure whitetiger is a Kubota technician working for a dealership. Perhaps, he hasn't seen any official bulletins from Kubota authorizing this specific fix?

I haven't experienced any fueling issues with my L2501....and I have my fuel turned up for my Turbo system. But, thank you for bringing up the topic...just in case I run into some issues in the future. I would just like some additional information, like the part number(s) for the replacement fuel pump and installation procedure.

I don't know the part number, but they said it's the same pump presently used on the larger L series models. The mechanical pump was 1 psi, the electric replacement is 7psi. As to whether any bulletin etc were published. I don't know. I do know that the mechanic, yes diesel mechanic (not technician) who formally worked for CAT said he sees a lot of stuff on the kubota company private chat. I suspect some of these models may not have the issue while others get them earlier.

There are a lot of variables given the engine is detuned; a pump that has just enough pressure, the (size of) shims installed on the timing mechanism as well as the throttle adjust screw.

Not wishing to debate anything...simply had an intermittent problem that was annoying and thought I would save others some grief if they encountered it. The tractor is running better than it has ever run including when new. As it is it only has 300 hrs on it.

As for the buy a bigger tractor comment, yes you are correct. I bought this tractor and it suits my needs perfectly on small acreage. That said, the most Important aspect of a tractor is weight and lift capacity for me and I would gain nothing more than what I have already from a 4701 in that respect. If at some point I wish to tinker to enhance its power at the pto, within reason, why not.

No, they just LOOK similar, they are not the same drivetrains at all.

I just did a search on the Kubota Dealers Portal, and as of right now, there is nothing about adding an electric supply pump to the L2501 tractor.
For what it's worth, the same mechanical lift pump has been used for 20+ years on 68 different models of B, L, MX, and M series tractors.

Virtually the same. It’s my understanding that the L2501 shares the same Hydrostatic unit and 28:27 input ratio. When comparing the internal PTO powertrain parts, it appears the PTO speed can be matched by replacing a couple gears if one was so inclined.

Thanks, I wouldn't doubt that at all...obviously mine was caput...still, remains curious there are several folks with the same L2501 model with the sputtering. What is the rated output psi of the pump...? I would think it would need to be high for the bigger machines. And if the same pump were used on smaller engines it was regulated down? Mine tested at 1 psi.

As long as there is a return path, it won't hurt to have a slightly oversized pump, so why not?

Adding a turbo saved me the cost of a bigger tractor. So what do those run these days? Tens of thousands of dollars.
