have owned this tractor for 9 months, and until yesterday it ran great and sounded normal. Now I hear a rorating/grinding/rubbing noise either from tranny or clutch area. Both shifters in neutral, idling at 1000 RPM's and the noise starts for seconds or minutes than stops and than starts again. I don't hear the noise while in gear and moving. Kinda sounds to me like a clutch issue but I would like some opinions on how to confirm and what repairs or adjustments may be required. The only thing I am doing different now than the first 9 months is I just started using the PTO for my mower - it seems to run fine though.

Thanks for your help!

Greetings from just around the corner! :D

Does the noise change or stop if you push in on the clutch pedal.

Could be the clutch, throw out bearing, or pilot bearing going out.
All of them will require you get it split and get into it.
And normally you will just replace all of them at the same time.

I'll send you a link for a download of the WSM for that tractor.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure if the noise stops with the clutch in. I'll fire it up tomorrow and try that step. I know it doesn't make that noise when in gear and moving

If it is the clutch, throwout bearing, what is the downside of not repairing it right away? With all the rain we've been getting, the grass and weeds on my trails and driveways are really getting tall and I need to mow them soon.

Thanks again!

You can run it like that for quite a while without doing any damage beyond what is already done. ;)

Thanks for the info and the WSM. I downloaded a copy earlier tonight.

Fired it up today but couldn't recreate the same noise - just a faint rattling noise, but not the louder grinding/rubbing noise I heard yesterday.

If I won't be hurting anything else, I'll delay the repair till later this summer.

Thanks again,

Chuck M.
