the tractor came with a loader, but the pump on the front of the engine had sheared the shaft off. The original loader had a hydraulic tank on the right side by the loader controls. I would like to break into the hydraulic line to run the loader, but unsure if it will work. if it was so easy why didn't they cut into the line in the first place instead of putting a pump on the front of the engine. Any insights would be most appreciated.

Mostly they used a front pump because with the tractor hydraulics the loader moved pretty slowly. I Had my L185 for about a week running the loader on tractor hydraulics, then bought the front pump kit. Never looked back...
There is a little 1-1/2x3" block just next to the seat mount on the left side, held on with 4 little bolts - about 1/4". It covers up the hydraulics ports. The block itself is drilled to allow flow through the system.
You can connect the Fel to the tractor hydraulics by replacing the block with one drilled through and threaded for your hose. Any small machine shop could fix you up in an hour or two. On the good side, you get to toss the reservoir, filter, etc.
On the bad side you have to run new hose around on the tractor, and put up with a slow loader. It might end up being as inexpensive just getting a new front pump, if you have the rest of the kit.

This is what the remote hyd block for the L245 looks like. I found I had one connected to the front frame for a snow blower that I now use on the 3PH.
