I'm brand new here. Hope I'm in the right place. TractorData.com says L245 has an independent PTO. Is this correct?

You may be asking the wrong question or using the wrong terms. I don’t know what you want to know but assuming that you want to understand how the PTO operates on the L245.

And I am assuming that it operates the same as my L185…

when the tractor is in neutral.

When the clutch is pushed the PTO can be put into gear (there are 3 on my tractor with 1 being 540 RPM). Release the clutch and the PTO will spin up to speed. Adjust the engine speed to point shown on the tachometer and the PTO shaft is at 540 RPM. The tractor will not be moving though since the drive transmission is in neutral

now if you push in the clutch, put the drive transmission in a gear and let out the clutch, both the pto will spin and the tractor will move.

if you then push the clutch down the tractor will stop moving and the pto will stop spinning.

if you have something with a lot of inertia like a brush hog shredder then the tractor will still stop but the PTO will take some time to slow down. But the tractor is not driven forward by the PTO shaft driving the transmission.

But you can not push the clutch down halfway and shift gears. It is a single stage clutch.

An independent PTO is operated by a separate clutch through a separate drive system from the tractor drive transmission and are on (some) modern tractors.
