Apologies if terminology not accurate. Looked for a previous post on this topic but didn't find anything.

In changing the Front Axle Case 80w-90, the removed fluid was quite different from one of the drain plugs than it was from the other two plugs.

Drained fluid from the "front axle case" drain plug looked like new.
Drained fluid from the two "bevel gear cases" at the wheels looked like would expect used gear oil to look like.

Looking to learn if this big difference in the way the drained oil looked is typical --- or if it may indicate something that needs looked into.

Forgot to record the hours for the last fluid change, but the interval was likely beyond the recommended 400 hours.

Thanks.

The fluid does not interchange all that much and all of the "bad stuff" tends to go to the bottom of the works so the fluid in the gear cases will always look worse.
If nothing too blatantly obvious jumps out, like metal shavings or flakes, I wouldn't worry about it, just refill it and move on. ;)

It was exactly the same with my front axle, on my 2410, it did not cause me alarm, I did flush a bit of fresh fluid through to clear any old stuff as the machine is new to me and though only at 500 hours, had been used hard in winter spreading salt and snow ploughing in a council fleet....wacky racers on ice going by the state of the tyres, but they are tough little tractors with good maintenance.:)
