Question: What is the starter NOT doing? How many hours on the tractor. In my opinion, you are always better off with either a repaired original starter or a replacement OE starter.

DB Electrical from Amazon about $100

I was reluctant at first to buy anything but OEM.. But I’ve bought their stuff several times and they’ve been just fine at reasonable prices. 300 hrs and 4 years on one of their $89 alternators (OEM costs $600.)

If I had a L2201 I would likely first look up the Kubota Part Number…. then, perform a “search” on-line for that starter….which would result in whatever substitutions may exist from other mfr’s.

Since I don’t own a L2201…. I wouldn’t likely have that PN handy…would I…. ;)

However, … a search on TractorDAta says it’s a D1101 engine….and another discussion here at OTT from another L2201 owner says it’s a 9-tooth starter-gear…and THIS link at Amazon says it’s a 9-tooth starter ”compatible” with Kubota 1100 engines and one of the many machines it fits is a “M-30 with Kubota D1101”….: https://www.amazon.com/Electrical-SND0306-Tractor-Compact-15321-63015-15321-63016/dp/B00Q8LTD9E/ref=sr_1_1?crid=WA6CVSWO59UH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.k7w_6ynsEBVpo9_7XOskvXDI4cDYxtMQogMgo6yZ-uEPkTEEneaAzFTtKv3h5TxFcqOD_2opSp6bs8WeyhH9YnwaU2HsrpMCTVCot7xpGmDubJdrbYOezOVrMdEo0kZ3ZaOTxENkgfD8uYe3iAfSv1ir9sRMnZgV9uS5cSbL9Y0VSVx30SAVSHgHgD_Yaz162lsagKMqnwP7TKEGdXQL6u2ibfhKVYkoRyulv5o2j9_Wk0nXialofXViLeBQI28YBQfxa5VCaHipdtTpFDk_vB6NPJPHoq9-nKu3R3_AB5k.hUrMf3Tu-uFNScJv08lEVBRJVY4AojmNkVRVn_gphag&dib_tag=se&keywords=kubota+L2201+starter+d1101&qid=1713322979&s=automotive&sprefix=kubota+l2201+starter+d1101,automotive,155&sr=1-1
