Hi all,
My original post on this topic seems to have vanished. Was it something I said??
I have what is almost certainly a gray market L2201DT and a photocopy of a manual for an L245 came with it. While there are many obvious similarities, changing the oil doesn't seem to be one of them. I'm trying to do both the engine and the transmission as they're well overdue.
1. Engine. Manual says 6.1 litres (6.3 quarts) go in. It also says there are two drain plugs--I only see one. I drained it but only got about three litres out. Figuring it must have been very low, I put in 6 litres and now the oil is way up the dipstick, it is very overfull. Two possibilities: There was another three litres that had to come out, but I don't see how; or, the quantity given in the manual is wrong for this model; or, both.
The new oil is also still pretty black, which leads me to think there was a lot more in the sump that I needed to get out somehow.
2. Transmission. Manual says 23 litres (about 25 quarts) and also that there is an indicator or dipstick on the left side--which there isn't, as far as I can tell. There seem to be at least three or four draining points but since I don't have the right manual I'm not even going to go there just yet.
Can anyone assist with the correct oil quantities for L2201DT, and also perhaps a diagram or procedure for this specific model. The Servicing 101 video is great as far as it goes, but without the right details I'll probably damage the tractor or at any rate not be able to do the job properly.
I am in very urgent need of assistance here, as I can't use the tractor until I've sorted this out.
Mr Chuck
