L210, serial number 21876
My tractor tinkering is limited to Ford N and 3000 models, but please don't hold that against me. A friend has asked me, as an option of last resort, to figure out his hydraulic problem. He has a L210 Owners manual and a L175 Service manual (P/N: 7000-70169), which seems to be close to the L210 system.
I did a forum search and found one post from June 2009 (mtaylor) that I think explains the same problem, but was unable to find the article/video mentioned in the post.
Problem: Hydraulic fluid is leaking/transferring, under pressure, into the transmission/gear case. I drained the gearbox, filled hydraulic tank and confirmed it is transferring. It is a slow transfer and the hydraulics work as advertised until the hydraulic tank is empty.
Other issues noted: I found a non-standard seat installed that restricted the hydraulic control lever from returning to neutral. But with new seat, same problem. Also was told that "someone" readjusted the stopper on the hydraulic link and possibly some other hydraulic settings. This was done to "make the lift arms move higher"??
Possible options: The 2009 post suggested the cylinder seal. However, the L175 manual mentions "if the control valve does not return to neutral automatically...oil delivered from pump...[will]return through relief valve to the sump in transmission case." Does this statement mean the relief valve sends hydraulic fluid into the gearbox? Could there be any other potential areas to investigate based on the above history, before I readjust the link stopper, check the relief valve setting and replace the cylinder seal?
Final note: the tractor is located at a "remote" hunting camp accessible only by boat. If it was land based, I'd load it on the trailer and take it to a dealer. But...
I will appreciate any and all assistance.
