Just picked up this tractor and it has the gear reduction front axle. I need the stub axle shaft as the previous owner sheared off the old one, any ldeas where to find one?

Try the dealer for new or this salvage yard near San Francisco for a used part (or complete axle?)
Found out why I was having so much trouble finding an axle for my tractor as it's not a L185DT, it's a L1500DT gray market tractor and I found a new clone axle for it. I did luck out as the axles are really rare to find. This outfit (PartsK.com) has new axles for $161.97, probably China clones but good enough for light use. In the meantime, I'll have my old one welded up for a back up.
