Just purchased 1977 L185 and it doesn't shut off with key. I can't find a fuel cut solenoid on the tractor. The cable stop says only use in emergency. I don't have owners or service manuals yet. Does it shut off some way without fuel cut on pump???

There should be a faded RED knob on the right side of the tractor about middle of the engine height, attached to a metal rod that goes to the fuel injestor pump. Pull the knob towards the back of the tractor and hold it. The engine should stop.

On my L185 you push the throttle all the way back and then down low below the right side of the dash there is a small lever that you pull up on to shut the fuel off and kill the engine. Then don't forget to shut the key off. Don't turn the key off with the engine running.

That's the way my old L245 worked. On mine the leaver you pull up on is part of the throttle linkage.

The previous posters have it all correct!

Push the throttle rod all the way forward to slow engine down.

Reach down (pretty low) on the right side and there is a lever right behind the throttle rod and you pull up on it. It is probably the same color as the engine if it has been re-painted.

The lever is about 5- 6 inches long. The rear end is rounded about the size of a quarter (maybe a little larger). If you can't locate it, stand on the right side of the tractor and move the throttle rod toward the rear (to speed up engine) and you will see it start to engage another linkage (rod I think) and then the shut off lever will move.

If an L185 is like my B6100's it might be forward for faster or forward for slower. I have one of each.

hey, it should have a decompression lever. thats how i kill mine but dont use it if its over 1000rpm. since the fuel systems on the L series are mechanical, theres no way to shut it off unless you starve it or pull the decomp lever
