I'm in the market for a compact B or L series, nothing more than 20hp is necessary for what I'll be doing. Ideally I'd like to find a model with an FEL and tiller.

I spotted an L1501DT with an FEL and 1211 for $5800 on craigslis the other day. Seems well kept from the pictures. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rds/grd/2155153488.html

What I'm struggling with is trying to determine a reasonable price for a private sale. There's only one on tractorhouse and it's at a dealer nearby. It has similar hours and an FEL and is listed for $7900.

When I look at auction results at Ritchie Bros, they're all over the place, e.g.:

no FEL, tiller, 1633 hours sold for $4750 (Truro)
no FEL, tiller, 946 hours sold for $3000 (Montreal)
no FEL, tiller, 1631 hours sold for $3500 (Montreal)
no FEL, tiller, 1536 hours sold for $3000 (Montreal)
FEL, 5ft tiller, 950 hours sold for $5000 (Edmonton)

As I'm a first time buyer of such equipment any opinions on price would be helpful. General opinions on how much auction prices are discounted as compared with private sales would be most useful.

Thanks Vic. I've read quite a few of your posts and this seems to be recurring theme. I probably should have visited an auction by now to see the state of these things, but the next one at Ritchie Bros. isn't until March 30th.

I'm assuming this is a grey market tractor, but I'm not sure whether, apart from parts availability, this is a negative or not.

Looks like you're right Vic. I called the guy up and he said it sold this morning.

Thanks for the site Stuart. I hadn't heard of that one. Their next auction is in April, whereas Ritchie Bros. is end-Nov. There's only one other that I've seen, which is Can-am, but they have a wider spectrum of goods for auction, although their next one is in early February, and they do have one Kubota on their list already.

Hi Vic,

This is an old post, but looking at your pictures, I can't tell if those are the original cane tires, or those are something (hopefully) more available?
Nice looking tractor by the way!

I could not find a replacement 8.3-22 cane tire for my L1501DT, and now have a rotted out flat.
In another post, you didn't know why people used the rough riding cane tires, so I assume you have a replacement you like to use frequently.

Can you help with a brand/size/style you like for a replacement?
What rims will I need?
I work in the woods and around my property, so I prefer nice deep lugs. I also have the DT so need to keep ratios in mind.

Thanks for any help Vic,

Greg

Don't even consider the auction prices in Western Canada as any measure of the price of a compact Kubota tractor.

The stuff you see there will be the roughest, toughest ugliest broken down most derelict equipment you could ever come across, and it's all being dumped at auction by one Alberta company.

That being said, acreage and small property owners are so desperate to get their hands on a small diesel, they pay waaaaayyyy too much for those junk Kubota tractors comming out of these Western Canada equipment auctions.

$5800 is a deal! I'd be all over that like green on a pool table! Drive there with your truck and trailer and take that Kubota home today!!!

Here's a pic of it's brother, I sold it into an acreage property just south of Calgary this summer for $9500 included a factory 52" Kubota tiller and 974 hrs on the clock.

I previewed that BC Kijjii ad last week and thought it was a damn good deal then and figure the second the snow and cold stops, it'll be SOLD!

I got rid of the R2s and went with the R1s..........traction doubled.

Just my experience.

Yer killin me here!
Yep, shipping is ridiculous. I priced shipping some tires from the lower 48, and it was more than the tires.

Just for laughs, what do your cane tires cost?

And what do you replace cane tires with?

Thanks,

Greg

I have new 8.3 X 22's in stock and available for delivery in Canada only.

The reason I can't sell them into the US is the inability to find a courier or transport carrier with a price for shipping that is not "stupid".
