I disassembled the PTO forks and removed the shaft to make sure the forks were operating properly and naturally, when I removed the detent shaft, the balls fell out, so here was my method to re-install them. I turned an aluminum rod to just under 12 mm., and about 5 1/2 inces long, and same size diameter as the detent shaft. I installed the one that I had turned and put the shaft through the forks, forcing the balls against the spring. I place that assy. in the rear hole of the case and placed the detent shaft through the front hole and with the handle of a hammer forced the shaft to the rear displacing the alum. shaft and therefore the detent shaft was installed with the balls and the spring in the proper position. I am posting this in case anyone has ran into this situation. Here are some pictures.Bob.
