On buying a new BX2380 with front loader and snowblower (2816), I see where they offer a service insurance contract when you do the paperwork with a $250 deductible each use. I'm mechanically inclined, don't plan on using the unit that much, and am a stickler for maintenance and pre-check every time I do use it. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on that type of contract? Thanks.....D

Like you, I am inclined to do my own repairs. I always decline the extended warranty or whatever they call it when I make a purchase. However, when I bought my LX2610 I opted for the Kubota zero percent financing, and that required that I buy the KTAC insurance. Even with the additional cost of the insurance it was a good deal. After almost four years of my five year loan I bent the the quick attach 'hitch'. KTAC paid for the repair and the bill was almost as much as the insurance cost me. Most of the bill was the part. So, for me, the KTAC insurance was worth having.

KTAC Insurance covers things that the warranty does not cover!

For me, it's a cash deal, so now it boils down to the cost/benefit ratio. I do the paperwork thing today. and will let y'all know what turned out. Best....D...and thx!

Since I financed mine, I was required to have insurance.

I also do all my own mechanical stuff, but I got KTAC mostly because I forgot to get insurance when I went to do the paperwork, and since I was there, it was “convenient”.

There are certainly less expensive options than KTAC, but in my humble opinion it’s pretty comprehensive coverage, especially for a “new to tractors” guy like myself.

If you go with some other kind of insurance, make sure it covers your tractor off of your property. Most riders on homeowner's insurance will only cover the tractor at home.

Plus, like Wolfman said, KTAC covers a lot of things that warranty doesn't. I have kept my KTAC up after I paid the 0% loan off.

I use my tractor to work on the shared private road (not my property) and I do load it up on a trailer to take it to other locations. Having KTAC gives me some peace of mind that if something happens to the tractor I will at least get something for my lose.

Mechanical issues aside if, God forbid, you roll your tractor, drop a tree on it, it gets stolen, etc. KTAC insurance has you covered. You can still work on the tractor to your hearts content but for the one in a thousand "OH CRAP" KTAC is worth it. JMHO.

When you roach the transmission because a stick ripped a line loose and you lost all the oil the cost/benefit will be abundantly clear.

Good point.

I would also like to add that I had a nearly identical situation that Dan pointed out.

The reason I didn’t run it dry, was becasue I had added that "JD red dye” additive and I saw the leak in the snow very quickly.

If not for that dye, there is no way I would have seen it, and I would have just kept working away……..

Paid cash for the BX this past April. Dealer noted an option then or later. They will send me the necessary paper work before the Later deadline. Will need to decide then. But will probably pass. Have never purchased any extended warranty on anything. My feeling is if something is off it usually shows up within the normal factory warranty period. Hopefully the Kubota will be as reliable as the old NH was. Basic maintenance and repairs I can handle. Keeps my tool junky addiction going.

OT: regarding tools. Sure wish we would get rid of the imperial system. As much as I like tools. The cheapo or frugal side of me dislikes needing to purchase metric and imperial sized tools. The NH had a mix of both systems. Ugh... John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin were all proponents of the metric v. King George's measurement system. A few hundred years later......

I got the KTAC when I purchased my tractor, I thought that as a new tractor owner, most of the learning curve mistakes were done in the first couple of years, luckily, I had no issues. The 5 year policy is about to run out, how many people continue to keep their machines covered under KTAC?
