I just purchased L35, I believe it to be 2002. Its been around 0 deg f here, its warmed up to 20 deg F and this is my first GST transmission. Ive been reading alot about them before and since purchase. Today after a good warm up the shuttle reverse worked pretty quick. However the gear selector was still very slow. example running in 3rd in snow, shift to 4rth , tractor continues for about 1-2 seconds then you fill a crisp clean disconnect the tractor then slows for about 3 seconds then you fill the re-engament but the tractor has slowed down so then it loads engine then goes. I tried it higher gears and seemed same. next test. It seems to be connected solid with the engine once its engaged.
I dont know much about this tractor so Im making a list of what I want to do the tractor over the next two weeks, but Would like suggestions from other Orange owners.

0 degrees............that oil if cold and thick........may also have some condensation in it that has froze.

When it warms up, change your oil.

How about a pic of that Nova?

Nice car. You must be having a ball with it. The Tractor is a good machine also. I have a 1995 L35 with about 1200 hrs on it and I love it. I am sure once it gets warmed up you will find that the glide sift will work great. I have not used mine in at that temp but I am not supprised that it is sluggish on the change when the oil is that cold. I agree with IsMurphy, get the hydraulic oil warmed up and change it preferably to Kubota UDT Hydraulic fluid. Thats what I use in mine. Or you might also consider going the extra cost for Super UDT2 which is a synthetic and may perform better under extreme conditions. Good luck and have fun on your tractor too,

GST's are very susceptible to the consistency of the fluid, too thick and they shift slow and sluggish. Like everyone is saying warm it up and change the fluid and filter out for new UDT, or better yet Super UDT2.

I plan to do a fluid/filter change next weekend when the temperatures increase. Is a shop service manual what I need to be able to service my tractor long term. Also so I make the best choice when I go to the dealer, how much fluid will I need for my L35 hyd. Ive read that that power steering and drive is seperate from loader/hoe. Then Ive read it is a common system ? If the super UDT2 is better how much more is it per gallon.

Yes you need to get a service manual and an operators manual.
You can also download a parts manual at Kubotabooks.com, that comes in handy too.

I don't know your exact system but if it only has one pump or one pump stack (pair of pumps together) then it should have a common system.
Look for filters and tanks that will help you determine if it has more than one system.
My GST has a stack pump common system with 2 filters one for the trans and one for the steering, it takes 7 1/2 quarts to fill it.

You need 41.2 US qts. of hydraulic oil for a change plus filter. If you are also changing engine oil you need 4.2 US qts. plus filter. You can get manuals for your tractor at Messicks.com and here is the link. http://www.messicks.com/Articles/KubotaManuals.aspx
By the way, I would not get the pdf reprint versions from ebay even though they are cheaper because the diagrams and pictures are not clear. Cheers, Don.....
