It was shifting and engaging and then it was not. Drives in both 2wd and 4wd but shift lever feels loose and no 4wd, Brought it back to the shop and powerwashed it thoroughly but with these continuous rains (Raleigh, NC) it will be a few days until we get the front raised up so we can get under it comfortably. Have read a few things to look at and will go that way first. We are not mechanics so we will not go inside too deep. Any comments will be appreciated,

You won't have to raise it up. Leave the tractor shut off, crawl under the right hand side and have somebody shift the lever in and out of 4wd, watch where the lever attaches to the shaft on the side of the transmission/ rear end housing, see if the shaft is turning. Check the lever and roll pin that are #s 050 and 060 in this pic. Sometimes that roll pin will either fall out or gets sheared off.
