I have a 4 ft king kutter xb tiller. The oil seal on the side gear box next to the tiller shaft has started leaking. Does anyone have any experience replacing this or have any suggestions.

I don't want to tear into it and then end up with more problems.

I put new bearings and seals in my BEFCO Tiller last year. It was not a bad job. Check the sealing area on the shaft carefully. If the seal has worn any kind of a grove into it consider using a redi-sleeve to correct the wear. I did not put one in mine and even with a new seal it still weeps a little gear lube. Not enough to go through the complete process again but enough to make me wish I had done it right the first time.

Mine leaked terrible after my son in law topped it off with 90wt. I refilled it with one step heavier than called for. It calls for 0 and I used 00 (or the other way around) its about the consistency of applesause

If mine keeps leaking I'm packing it with wheel bearing lube and putting a grease fitting in the hole where the fill level plug is.

Thanks everyone. I'll try some 00 or 000 grease first and see what happens.

i had a hydraulic leak on Belarus , leaking like crazy, really just pouring out, didn't have the money to have it fixed, a neighbor told me about a product he got off ebay that he used to stop a hydraulic leak and it worked well. So i ordered it with the expectation of something like radiator stop leak, it is not like that at all. it softens the old seals if they are not gasket or old felt seals, if they are rubber this stuff works wonders, it stopped my leak in about 15 minutes. i swear by it now. It's called Seal Lube, 8 oz for 14.00, on ebay. It is a clear liquid , not thick and can be used with any oil, hydraulic, as long as seal is rubber.
