Hi All,
I am new to this forum. I bought a KH-033 excavator April 2015 so I could re do my driveway. Everything went well last year when I was using the ex. I didn't need much of an excavator just something that would work for me so I could get the job done cheaply. I was impressed with it and it worked well for what I needed.

In the spring of this year, since I still had the ex sitting around, I thought I would start advertising for some extra work to do on the side. Probably about 2 weeks into my first job it started blowing steam out the exhaust. I am thinking a head gasket or maybe a cracked head. I have it listed for sale but if I don't get what I am looking for out of it, I'll probably just fix it myself. The tag on the front of the cab says it has a 8073 motor in it. So my question is: Is a head gasket available for it? How common is it for a head gasket to blow or for a head to crack on this motor? Any other info on this machine would be appreciated and THANKYOU in advance.

The tag saying motor # most likely wrong.

Kubota motors follow these # sequence.
Letter... Z=2 cylinder, D=3 cylinder, V=4 cylinder, F=5 cylinder, and so on
and Numbers 9XX is .9 liter, 17XX is 1.7 liter, 22XX is 2.2 liter, and so on
and the last 2 number indicate series, 50, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05

The most likely engine in your EX is a V1702 IDI (indirect injection), you can verify this buy looking on the side of the block behind the injection pump will have the liter or CC cast into the block, the other # will be stamped into the flat spot right front of the injection pump location.

You can get parts for it, and if you want or need a head I have a very lightly used head that I would part with for cheap. ;)

Ok...so I checked out the stampings on the motor finally and this is what I got: 1861 CC 91J(2)H. Does that make sense?

Ok you have a V1902.
Next you need to find out if it's a DI (Direct Injection) or IDI (Indirect Injection).
A picture of the injectors will answer that.

Just so you know why I haven't responded in a while, I have been really busy. When I find time I'll pull the injector and get a picture of it.
