I have a hydraulic fluid leak on my BX25 backhoe. I can see that it's at the coupling, but can't get a wrench on it to tighten the nut. So little of the nut protrudes from the hole that I can't get to it. I can see scratches where the previous owner also tried to tighten the nut. Any advice?

That's in a tough location. Maybe one of those crooked looking wrenches? S-shaped wrench I think they're called.
It looks to me like the 45 degree elbow would need to be removed and pulled out of the arm to be tightened. Then put back through the mounting plate and re-assembled. Of course you would have to start with removing the hydraulic cylinder. Lot of work but a lot of what we do to equipment is a lot of work.

I'd unpin cylinder
block it out a bit, maybe abit more....
uncouple the upper hose
remove bulkhead nut
vice grip the elbow
tighten the lower hose
then reassemble....

If you go through the effort to disassemble, consider using Loctite 545 on the threads of the fittings.
As stated remove the dipper cylinder hose and the hose to the bucket cylinder off the bulkhead fitting. Then remove the bulkhead fitting and bring the leaking connection up where you can work with it.
It may be easier to retract the dipper cylinder and rest the bucket on the ground. You will have to be careful how you position the dipper as it could be unstable and drift when you remove the hose.
This should be a JIC fitting so do not use sealer or locking compound. Just tighten the fitting 1.25 flats after feeling slight resistance or when all the sealing surfaces have mated. Also make sure that you have the fitting clocked correctly when tightening out of position like this. It can be very hard to reassemble and the hose inside the boom could twist and rub causing issues down the road.
A set wrenches like this work wonders when dealing with hydraulic lines. I actually have 4 sets of varying sizes from 5/16" - 2 1/2" You can buy off shore tools but this is a case where you get what you pay for.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm going to order an angle head wrench and give it a shot. Otherwise, looks like I'll plan a day in the garage following ruger1980's helpful advice.
Ruger1980's advice is right on.
Don't think you need to use a day to do it though...probably an hour or so if you work slow and careful. I bet ruger1980 could do it in 15 minutes!
Of course, my expectations never agree with reality! So give yourself a couple hours and that should be it...

I'm looking at the picture again, I'm wondering if ,while it's all apart, if grinding the 'top' of the oval hole, would make enough room to tighten the fitting in the future ?
It's hard to tell without being there, but maybe it would ?

Tie a piece of wire around 45 so you don't loose it in the boom. Undo upper hose, then jamb nut on bulkhead. I think you then have enough slack in hose to pull up to tighten. However it looks to be cross threaded so not sure on hose fitting condition. I would also have a spare 45 bulk head in case.

Thanks again for the help. As ruger1980 and Henro said, it wasn't a bad job at all. 30 minutes, tops. Detached the boom cylinder and got it out of the way, then separated the hydraulic line and removed from bulkhead. Had plenty of slack to pull it up to get a wrench on it. I don't think it was cross-threaded. Tightened it up and - no leak! Ran the backhoe for 30 minutes or so to be sure. Thanks for the guidance. Much appreciated.
